2. What is Cop-Lock’s size and weight?
Cop -Lock is similar in weight (1.8 kg) and size (55cm in length) to most steering locks. It is smaller and lighter than most other pedal locks and when effectiveness is also taken into account; it is far superior to other mechanical anti theft devices.
3. Has it been independently tested?
Hand Brake Turn carried out comprehensive tests on the Cop-lock prototype in 2004. - This organisation operates under the auspices of Care and Communication Concern Welfare Inc., with the assistance of government, business, the police and other community agencies. See testimonials for more.
4. Who invented Cop-Lock and what were the objectives?
The Cop-Lock is a brake/clutch pedal lock that has been developed by Bob Lycoudis, a retired Victorian police sergeant with approximately 20 years experience in the force, to help combat the massive problem of car theft. His objective was to develop a user friendly manual anti theft device that really worked yet was within the reach of the average motorist who cannot necessarily afford expensive electronic anti- theft devices or whom wish to use it in conjunction with them as layered protection - as advocated by many insurance companies.
Can I see the instructions on how to fit Cop-Lock?
Instructions
The purpose of Cop-Lock is to stop the effective use of the brake or clutch pedal and because it is extremely difficult to remove unlike other mechanical devices deterring potential thieves.
In some manual cars the ignition cannot be activated unless the clutch is depressed, for these cars it may be preferable that Cop-Lock be fitted to the clutch. In all other cases it is preferable to fit Cop-Lock to the brake pedal. Many automatic cars with the transmission left in park cannot engage drive either or start the ignition without depressing the brake pedal.
Cop-Lock thereby achieves a multiple purpose including stopping effective braking. Therefore please ensure that the Cop- lock is fitted correctly as per illustrations and instructions below.
Figure 1
Either sitting in your vehicle or standing out side pull the self locking shaft back as far as it will go and fit boot of Cop-Lock over the brake or clutch pedal ensuring that the slot and the guiding ribs at the front of the boot are either side of the brake or clutch pedal arm.
Figure 2
Now push the self-locking shaft, which should pass under the pedal firmly to the fire wall/floor - no key is required. Place the steering wheel cover over the steering wheel as a further visual deterrent to thieves. Decals should be permanently affixed to the windows, preferably rear and driver’s side window.
To remove the COP-LOCK use the key to unlock the device and simply pull back the shaft away from the fire wall/floor as far back as it will go and lift clear of pedal.
Warning
Loose objects in moving vehicles can cause injury and damage to occupants and property including the vehicle. It is strongly recommended that your COP-LOCK be securely stored and where it wont interfere with pedals and levers whilst not in use. Further you should not attempt to drive the vehicle whilst COP-LOCK is installed.
